Children’s dentistry is dental care adapted to children: to teeth that are still developing, and to the way a child experiences a visit to the dentist. It includes check-ups, prevention such as fluoride and fissure sealing, and the treatment of baby teeth and permanent teeth.
Children can come along from a young age, even if nothing seems to be wrong. This helps them become familiar with the practice before anything ever needs to be done, and allows the development of their teeth to be monitored. The dentist will discuss with you from what age, and how often, this makes sense for your child.
A first visit is mainly about getting acquainted: looking, counting, and explaining what is happening. After that, check-ups, brushing advice and, if needed, fluoride or fissure sealing can be discussed. What a child can cope with varies greatly by age and by child, and the pace is adapted accordingly.
Baby teeth matter: they keep space open for the permanent teeth and are needed for chewing and learning to speak. The dentist will discuss with you how best to help with brushing at home, and until when it is best for you to take over or check it.
This page gives general information about the treatment. It is not advice about your own situation: what applies to you will be decided by the dentist after an examination. If you have a question or a complaint, please call the practice on (0032) 089 44 02 01.
